The one half of your weight-loss plan is food, nutrition, and portions The other half of your weight loss plan is exercise. The advantage of exercise is that it burns calories, increases your metabolism and helps you to keep weight off. There are many different types of exercises to choose from, however, the issue becomes finding one that you enjoy and are willing to stick with. Here are some tips for starting an exercise program and staying on it:

  • Don’t start off hard and fast. It will cause you a lot of muscle pain and you will probably quit. Start out slow and steady and you will win long term.
  • Love the exercise you select. You are not going to continue doing something that you don’t like. If gyms aren’t your thing, do a physical activity you might actually enjoy, like a martial arts class, learn a new dance, do an indoor climbing wall. There are also many outdoor and team activities like soccer, a marathon training group (I run with people that train for marathon), etc.
  • Keep yourself active by walking, taking the stairs, or parking away from store entrances.
  • It’s important to do both cardiovascular and muscle-building exercise. The one will help you lose weight, while the other will help muscle tone and body strength. This will help raise your metabolism.
